Printer Problem

Using the Add Printer Wizard, I selected Local Printer, then Parallel Port #1, then selected Epson Stylus Color 600 (my printer), then Epson Stylus Color 600 (Foomatic+gimp-print [recommended]), clicked Test and got the message

"Test page successfully sent to printer..." but nothing happened

The printer was on and works properly with Windows XP.

What am I doing wrong?

Admin mode?

Did you run the printer wizard in the Admin mode? The latest versions of Mepis automatically force you to log in as root, but earlier ones don't and you get the illusion that you have set up your printer when you haven't

Admin mode?

Was logged in as root (assume this is what you mean by Admin mode)

Admin Mode

Usually when I set up a printer, I just go in as user and when I bring up the printer wizard, there is an Admin Mode button at the bottom that I click. But if you are running as root it should be the same result.

Sometimes when I go to print something and nothing happens, the first thing I do is to make sure the printer I have set up is the one that is selected to print. The default setting will often result in nothing being printed.

Thanks for your hints. I am on the road. When I get back on Wednesday

I will try it again.

Printer refuses to print PDF

Installed Samsung ML-1750 with CUPS and the suggested options. Can print from OOo after configuring its printer options, and, after upgrading to the latest beta of Mepis, now also from Mozilla. I cannot print a PDF, though (scanned documents stored as PDF). Sometimes the printer starts heating up, sometimes not, but never prints anything except, eventually, an incomplete session time out error page.

I generally manage to use a few command lines on detailed instructions, but I am not an expert on this. Does anybody know a way to solve the problem via the graphics interface?

thx for the tip, with http:/

This did the trick! Thanks for your help.

Without this input, one could be wandering around in the wilderness for days (at least)
