2004.07.05rc SimplyMepis beta
I have installed this latest beta on my computer and it is the best one so far that I've installed. Alsa finally works for me, even with the 2.6.5 kernel and the 2.6.7 kernel that I just compiled and installed to it. All my hardware is now working totally right with Mepis using this beta.
One problem though that I want to report that has been an issue with the last few betas that I've installed. I had to edit my fstab to get my cdrom and floppy drives to mount. The only way I could get them to mount correctly was to delete out the # Dynamic Entries line and take the word mepis out of the filesystem part of those drives. I had to do both of these steps to get my drives to mount. Just taking out the word mepis won't fix the problem because as soon as I rebooted after doing this, the words came back. But when I also took out the dynamic entries line, my fstab editing stayed after reboot and I was able to mount my drives.
Other than this minor problem (to me but maybe not to newbies), I love this latest beta and wanted to share all this info with other Mepis users.
