Yet another USB-SD-reader-problem :-/

Hi all,
I would appreciate if anyone could help with yet another SD-card/USB. I've been consulting all the threads on the topic that I have found but all to no avail. I simply cannot mount the card.
My fstab reads:
/dev/hde2 / reiserfs defaults,noatime,notail 0 0
/dev/hde3 swap swap sw,pri=1 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0622 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom udf,iso9660 noauto,users,kudzu,ro 0 0
/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 noauto,users,kudzu,ro 0 0
# Dynamic entries
/dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1 ntfs noauto,users,exec,ro,umask=0222 0 0
/dev/sda2 /mnt/sda2 auto noauto,users,exec 0 0
/dev/sda5 /mnt/sda5 auto noauto,users,exec 0 0
/dev/hde1 /mnt/hde1 ntfs noauto,users,exec,ro,umask=0222 0 0
/dev/sdb1 /mnt/flash auto users,exec,sync 0 0
When I try to mount /dev/sdb1 I get the following error message:
/dev/sdb1: Input/output error
mount: I could not determine the filesystem type, and none was specified.
I've tried to change the last line of my fstab to declare vfat instead of auto. When I do this I get the following error message:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, or too many mounted file systems
The card does not seem to be damaged as it works flawlessly under XP. Any suggestions?
Best regards,
/K.

I installed simply mepis a few weeks back and had my SD-card detected no prob. I don't??remember which version I was using when I posted this thread first. I wish I could help out more -??cause I remember how annoying it was not getting the SD-card working -??but unfortunately I'm still no more than a newbie. Good luck.

It would seem that there is a problem here. I have the same problem with my usb card reader. It worked in suse 9.1 & lindows. I just installed the latest simply mepis and i cannot get the card to be read.
Maybe we can pass this up to Warren to see if he can shed some light on the problem since this is a release candidate version.
