Simply Mepis Final is in the released folder on the public mirror!!!
Hey guys and gals,?? I hope I am not stealing anyone's thunder or jumping the gun but I just noticed SImplyMepis is in the released folder dated today 8/24! ?? I'm downloading it now!

simplymepis 2004 french ?!?
Are they french language in the new simplyMEPIS 2004.
Thank's ...
Maybe it isn't announced for a reason!
Not sure if it is because Warren is busy, because he found issues, because he wants a chance for the mirror sites to catch up, or this is simply an oversight.
My recollection is that the very final version had to be available no later than September 5, but I cannot recall whether the version going to publishing for the book had to be ready earlier than that or not (I think it did).
I believe once Simply MEPIS 2004 is solidified, Warren had planned to return to filling out the two CD edition with the software people have requested for the more complete edition. That edition will also be based on the core stuff found in Simply MEPIS 2004, but it may include newer versions of software not ready in time for the Simply MEPIS CD. For instance, if the KDE 3.3 stuff stabilizes sufficiently well, it may be included in subsequent CDs. Looking forward to it!

Hello Group:
The SimplyMEPIS release a few days ago was not the final version " 1.0 ".?? But the release needed for Warren's deadline.?? The official for lack of another name is to be release soon, the next few days.?? IF you downloaded the release, you may be able to upgrade without loosing your data.?? If I understood what I read.?? From now on you may be able to upgrade to a new MEPIS, with out doing a complete install.
We just need to wait for a final, offical anoucement.

I'm sorry but..
I'm sorry and I love Mepis and Warren et al, but, if it's not the official release then don't put it in the released folder just to meet a ephemeral deadline,,,,??
I'm not knocking Warren or anything but I"m a person who's straight up and if I say something it means exactly that, so I guess I mistook "Released" for "Not really Released".
I am not a complete idiot!

Hi fellow ET'er,
If the release had to do with the book deal then I understand completely, after all meeting a contract with dollars attached to it is a totally different subject and Warren deserves all the just rewards he can get.....

Released or not released.
Warren said that he worked all night and uploaded it into the wrong directory by mistake. Don't be too hard on him.

Well then I apologize...
Pardon me for getting on my high horse, certainly I can understand that and that would explain why there was no official announcement.
I probably got too excited because of my love for Mepis and besides I just wanted my lousy 15 minutes of fame.
At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it... or perhaps the parts came in......

I am also looking forward very much to KDE 3.3 and also a few dev tools, (for ./configure, make, make install'ing apps from source) as well as Apache/PHP/MySQL and Webmin. I think it would be a great idea at least initially to minimize development effort, just update a few packages, make sure they work, and add anything that doesn't fit to a second CD. I'm on a slow dialup connection, and MEPIS (2003.10) is the only HD-installable Live-CD that is friendly to my sort of setup when it comes to making packages available for virtually everything on CD#2, without installing a bloated initial system. I'm really glad to hear that the 2003.10-style 2-CD system is still forthcoming. Thanks for posting this, masinick!
