Windows XP Samba/Cups problem: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

I've had Mempis installed for a few days now, and am having trouble configuring a printer.?? The printer is on my daughter's computer, which is running Windows XP.?? In the Control Center, Peripherals, Printers, Add New Printer using the Cups Server, when I scan for the printer, I see my daughter's computer.?? However, when I try to expand it by click the "+" on the side, the following error message appears: "Error returning browse list: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED"

I have disabled the Firewall and the virus checker on her computer, but that doesn't help.?? I've checked the network settings, and file and printer sharing are enabled.?? I've not been able to find anything of obvious use on google, nor has a search of these forums yielded any results.

Can anyone help, or point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Mike

Not really a Samba problem

I had the same thing happen to me. The problem is in the windows XP setup. For some reason on xp you must go to "add/remove programs" in the control panel and on the left will be a button for Windows components. Click on it and under "other network file and print services" you will find "print services for Unix". Make sure that it is checked and hit ok. When setting up in Mepis, set up as remote lpr/lpd. and give the ip address to the machine. Everything should work well after all that.

Here's what worked for me.- L

Here's what worked for me.

- Log into the Printer wizard as Administrator.

- When you launch the Add printer wizard, choose SMB shared printer.

- In the next screen(user identification), choose Anonymous(no login/no password)

- Proceed to the next screen, and SCAN your network.(This is where you will get the NT_ACCESS_DENIED message if you try to access your Windows network)

- Now Don't touch anything, and go BACK one step to the previous screen (User identification).

- In the user identification screen, choose guest(login = "guest").

- Proceed to the next screen. DO NOT repeat a scan. Just try to access your Windows network in the displayed tree. You should magically see your Windows printer appear without any whining about access.

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

I followed the advise of the previous post which was:

" Log into the Printer wizard as Administrator.

Except my printer did not magically appear until I tried again by the original, "anonymous user" technique and clicked on the server. I may have even re-scanned. That said, in < 60 seconds I was up and printing. It is definitely some sort of smb bug. I did not mess with my XP server at all per the instructions on the other post.
