IOGEAR ONE PORT USB PRINT SERVER AND MEPIS
Posts: 6
The
IOGEAR 1-port USB print server (GPSU01) allows sharing of a printer
from any computer on your network. Setup for my daughter's Windows
system and my son's MAC was simple ??? just insert the CD and it
worked.
My
laptop running Simply Mepis was not so simple. There are no
instructions for Linux in the manual and I could not find anything in
the various Linux forums. After much
fiddling, I have been able to configure
Mepis to work with the IOGEAR print server. In case anyone else
needs it, here are step by step instructions:
Logon
and run the Add Printer Wizard found under ???Print System??? on the
start menu. The wizard will step you through eleven screens.
-
???Introduction???
screen: click ???Next??? -
???Back
end Selection??? screen: choose ???Remote LPD queue??? -
???LPD
Queue information??? screen:-
enter
the IP address of your IOGEAR print server in the ???Host??? field.
-
-
Enter
???lp1??? in the ???Queue??? field.
(note ???L??? as in Lima, ???P??? as in Papa, and the numeral one).
???Printer
Model Selection??? screen: select the printer type that you have
connected to the USB port on the IOGEAR print server. In my case
this was an Epson Stylus C80.
???Driver Selection??? Screen: select
???CUPS+Gimp-Print v4.2.7 [English]
???Printer
Test??? Screen: click the ???Test??? button. If you are not logged
in as root, you will be asked for the root password. If everything
is correct up to this point, a CUPS test page will print on your
printer.
???Banner Selection??? screen: accept
the default ???no banner??? or what ever you prefer.
???Printer
Quota Settings??? screen: accept default or as you prefer
???User
Access Settings??? screen: accept default or as you prefer
???General Information??? screen: You
must give the printer a name. The other fields are optional
???Confirmation??? screen: If all looks
good, click the ???Finish??? button.
You
should now be able to print to the printer connected to the IOGEAR
USB print server. If not double check the following:
A.
Use the ???REMOTE LPD QUEUE???
B.
Use the correct IP address for your IOGEAR print server. You will
probably want to assign the IP address instead allowing DHCP to
automatically assign the address.
-
Use
???LP1??? for the queue.
D. Use the appropriate ???CUPS +
Gimp-Print??? driver for your printer. NOT the driver that says
???Recommended??? beside it!
