iblitzz wireless card - how do I configure for Linux?
I am 100% new to Linux.?? I found Red Hat Drivers for my wireless card from two different sources.?? I just received Mepis today and when running live it did not find my wireless card or my scanner.?? I have also read something about 'Alien' being able to convert this .rpm to a debian usable package (forgive me if I am saying this wrong) and then I believe I will be able to use it with Mepis.?? Can anyone give me some pointers on this or provide me with a different avenue to use this card??? The card specifics are:
Model = BWI605 11Mbps 802.11b Wireless LAN PCI Card
ADMTech ? makes the chipset
Thanks for all your support.?? I am really looking forward to getting completely out of the window$ environment.

I really don't want to go back to wires.?? This wireless card worked great in Windows 98se and Windows XP doesn't work all that well (I lose connection without notice) which is one of the mai reasons I want to go to Linux.
Well I'm committed to going 100% Linux and I really want this card to work.?? I really could use the help.?? I don't want to drill holes in my wall or floor to connect this computer to my router.????There has got to be a way.
Also, I don't want to dual boot.?? I want to get rid of windows completely from this computer??and go completely with Linux.?? All help will be appreciated.
no wires, No Windows.

Good for you! I too went "cold-turkey" a little over a year ago. As I said, if you don't get an answer fairly easily, drop a note to

good news -- bad news

A non-wireless eithernet card will solve that problem!

The good news is, yes alien does convert RPMs to DEBs & it's easy to use. Open a console & type:
alien --help
for information.
The bad news is that my experience with "red-hat drivers" written by hardware manufacturers has been really awfull. They're usually very unfriendly, require recompiling the Linux kernal & support only the most basic features. Also, there's a lot of diference between "red-hat" (which is no longer the most popular linux BY FAR) & Debian (which is the basis for MEPIS). Not everything is located in the same place nor called the same thing between the two.
I hope someone else can be more helpfull, meanwhile search online for the word debian & admtech or BWI605 on google that would be:
debian|deb admtech|BWI605
If you don't find a solution fairly easily write to
Good Luck!
