Hard drive spins down but fans are still going as is video display. Another distro on that machine shuts down normally as well as 98SE. Could someone point me to where I look for the fix?

yes, power mgmt shutdown is working on the same computer with kanotix but not mepis. I am at a loss as to where to look here. I have mepis running on this computer here as well and it powers off fine.

I have this problem with my thinkpad, and was able to solve by going into KDE Control panel, login manager, then shutdown tab. then change /sbin/halt to /sbin/poweroff hope this works for you.

Jims, I know you were trying to help, but did you notice that the post you are responding to is three years old? The likelyhood of the original poster still being around and having the problem is slim to none.
So thanks for the help; just check the age of things before you post.
Jon
The ability to comfortably use a computer is directly proportional to desire to listen, learn, and experiment, and is inversely proportional to the fear, anger, and stubbornness that you show.

I done that one too, so it's nice to know that I'm not only one.
