Chipheads,
I finally upgraded to SimplyMepis-2004.02, but then had to reinstall many of my favirite programs. I struggled to reinstall my antivirus "bitdefender" and the GUI "Kbitdefender". So I will share that wisdom to save others some grief.
Download bitdefender free version for linux (http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/downloads.php?menu_id=21#)
(choose the deb package), and then have Kpackage find and install bitdefender. You now can read the FAQ in /opt/bdc/doc/FAQ and use bitdefender at the command line. Also, in a console, you can type bdc --help and review the command line parameters. The command for a typical virus scan of my home directory would look like
(# bdc /home/vince --files).
To add a GUI for bitdefender download two files from (http://www.grautier.com/Grautier/modules/news/). This is a german web site, so first thing select "Englsch:Google Translate" - then on left select Download - then download two files: Kbitdefender-v28.08.2004-Quellen and Kbitdefender-v28.08.2004-Installer.
Then right click on Kbitdefender-v28.08.2004-Quellen and select Ark and then extract. This will create a new directory "kbitdefender" and extract all the files to that new directory. Then right click the other file, Kbitdefender-v28.08.2004-Installer, and select properties and select the permissions tab and place a check next to executable (this makes this program executable), then ckick OK. Now just click on "Kbitdefender-v28.08.2004-Installer" and a GUI will start and walk you through the install of Kbitdefender. It will install to /usr/local/kbitdefender. Then you can right click on the desktop to "Create New" - "File" - "Link to Application" to launch kbitdefender.
Luck,
Vince
