Fan/Temp Control

I'd like to monitor cpu temp to be sure I'm not burning up my machine. When I boot Mepis it shuts off the fan. This is also true of WinXP, so I assumed it was normal, although other linux distros do not shut it off. Seemed like an advanced feature of Mepis. But I read a thread on another forum about a laptop user who had shutdowns after installing mepis, maybe due to heat.

So my question is, how does mepis control fans and how can I monitor the temp of the cpu, etc.?

ksensors

Hi,

Via Kpackage you can install ksensors, a frontend to lm-sensors. Depending on your hardware this will allow you to monitor the fans, cpu temp, mb temp etc. I tried it just now and it saw some but not all of the sensors, but I didn't want to go through the hassle of configuring it. The frontend looks nice, though. Oh, you should use the 2.6 kernel I believe, the 2.4 requires extra modules to be installed.

Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question

I did the install but no se

I did the install but no sensors are found, just the usual memory, swap, etc. and I seem unable to install i2c stuff, but will work on it later. gotta do some honey-do's.... Smiling
