i have a pctel internel 56k modem , does it work in mepis ?, how an internel modem can be configured in mepis ?

I had little sucees in making my internel modem work on fedora core 2 and redhat 8
I have to download and compile kernels to make it work on my fedora and redat 8

think it is a boring task for a newbie to do everytime, if a device is
not working properly on his linux macine . i want to know if anybody
have configured a inernel modem in mepis and its working
for them sucessfully ?

Same issue.?? Mepis sees it on ttys0 irq4 as a 16550A on boot up but does not see it during configuration.??
Actually, this is the one issue (modem) that has plagued me with all Linux distros (Windows is difficult in this area as well so it must be something inherent in OS's and modems).
When I change to ttys1 and query the modem, the return screen is blank on all the queries.
When I try to dial it, it just sits there trying to "initialize".
I think I'll try to find a PCI modem that is Linux compatible.
This Mepis is so very cool.?? This is as close as I've ever gotten to finding something I can migrate my small business to.?? Thanks for the help.

this modem might work, the best way to find out is with the live cd.
