Question re Dell internal wifi hardware

Currently running a Latitude C840 with no problems whatsoever and an external PCMCIA prism type 802.11b wi-fi adapter.

Dell do do a wifi adapter internally as an upgrade for the currently fitted modem card, which would be useful to not have the pcmcia wifi antennae bit protruding, so my question before I go out and blow 30 quid on one is this, has anyone used the dell internal (mini pci) wifi/modem adapter with mepis successfully or is it a driver hell device to be avoided.

Currently running simply 2004 and booting into 2.6.7 kernel with all testing updates done but hwdata pegged to the old version, not the latest and not the mepis one.
