running out of disk space

I've decided to axe my windows partition to free up some space. I 'm not sure how to do it though.
I was thinking that I would:
dd /dev/hda2 /dev/hda4/
fdisk /dev/hda (combine windows/linux partition)
dd /dev/hda4/ /dev/hda?

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Also, how do I make it bootable?

are you starting afresh?

if you are starting again, then repartitioning would be best.
I wouldn't try to join the two partitions - it seems a special recipe for trouble - unless reformatting altogether

use cfdisk from a terminal.
unmount the partitions first. if you can't do that and still run linux, then do this from liveCD.
