dvd::rip

dvd::rip howto

Here is what i have already found out about getting dvd::rip going on mepis.

1) setup for debian package of dvd::rip

add to /etc/apt/sources.list

deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main

2) installation of package

apt-get update

// not mandatory is to check what is apt-get is going to install
apt-get -s install dvdrip

apt-get install dvdrip

And now you are ready for running it. Just type in konsole dvdrip

on 30 december 2004 this installed the latest version of 13 dec. dvd::rip 0.51.4 [unstable].

You need to set some directories where you want to put your output files
but the GUI is very clean.

What i tried so far was converting a DVD that was already ripped to disk
( which was done on windows ) to a svcd avi. Using the transcode tab of dvd::rip.
I used smbmount to mount the windows pc that holds the rip. So i want
to convert dvd to svcd between a windows pc and my linux server. Outputting the svcd on
the linux server.

First try i got an error that export_divx4.so was not found

I had to symlink export_divx5.so to export_divx4.so
See this link for more info http://zebra.fh-weingarten.de/~maxi/html/transcode-users/2002-06/msg00377.html

There is much more to this program. I might need to adjust some of the
converting parameters but i don't know much on this subject. The defaults that are presented
looked what i needed. 1 DVD to 2 AVI files of 700Mb.

If somebody else has some more tips on dvd:rip, please share these on the forum

Good How-To

Great how-to. This is a fine example of what a how-to should be like. This area is meant for this exact type of post; not questions but step-by-step how-to procedures. Good job!
