Nvidia 6111
Posts: 3
HI,
Mepis is great, it hasn't crashed on me at all, unlike suse and such
. I have a problem though. I would like to upgrade my Nvidia driver to 6111 version. But the ones in the repositories is the newest version which dosen't work with my old card.
I would like to know if there is a repository with this version it? Or can someone tell me as to where the kernel-source-path would be. I've tried /usr/src but I get an error saying kernel-header is not found.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike.

First off, don't use the latest Nvidia driver with any debian distro from what I have been reading on other mesage boards.
You can download the nvidia-glx.deb package from here: http://debian.experimentos.cl/debian/pool/non-free/n/nvidia-graphics-drivers/ you want the nvidia-glx_1.0.6111-1_i386.deb package. Simply download it and right click on the file select MANAGE PACKAGE >INSTALL. That should take care of it. After that open Mepis system center and select mouse & display. Undr the display tab check the box that says somthing about "official nvidia driver" hit apply and reboot.

the easier way to install it, would be via apt-get
just go to a root console and type:
apt-get install -t unstable nvidia-glx
and then you'll have the newest nvidia version 6629 installed

Ruben.. Did you get 6629 working with SimplyMEPIS?? I tried it and never got it to go to X just the text prompt. It gives an error somthing to the effect of 6629 not compatible with 611 headers or somthing like that. Anyway, I did some reading over at Mepislovers and it seemed to be a common isuue with everyone. One of the posts said somthing about finding 6111, so I went hunting for it and tried it. That was what worked for me.
This Nvidia and linux reminds of the old days when I had a GeForce2 MX400. I spent hours on end reading at geforcefaq.com ...... Don't even know if that site still exists
