Morgantown, WV, February 2, 2005: The SimplyMEPIS 3.3-test02 bootable CD has been uploaded to the usual mirror sites and the MEPIS premium FTP site.
This release introduces a GUI based GRUB boot menu system. Language and display resolution can be selected from pull down menus. A more detailed boottime help system is available in a popup window. Warren says "I hope this will make it easier for users to boot into the CD using the language and display resolution of their choice."
Hardware autodetection has been added for more firewire and nic devices. Skype 1.0 is included in this release. Other packages have been updated. SimplyMEPIS 3.3 will now enter a code freeze except for bug fixes.
MEPIS has purchased a HP Pavilion laptop which has made it possible to verify out of the box Centrino support for graphics and wireless G in this release.
SimplyMEPIS 3.3 is scheduled to be released at LinuxWorld Boston, Feb 14-17. MEPIS will be exhibiting at booth 1512. Community members are urged to contact if they are interested in supporting MEPIS at the show.

Cool! What KDE version does it include?
Are there still plans for Pro/MEPIS too?
Thanks!

I believe it is 3.3.2 .?? Simplymepis has switched to the unstable repositories instead of the testing repositories, and since 3.3.2 is now in unstable, i would assume 3.3.2.?? I also just looked at the livecd and believe it said 3.3.2.

Simply 3.3 does have KDE 3.3.2 and also GNOME 2.8.1. It is basically PRO beta 4 with a few updates. (Even the GNOME splash and background are still the old ProMEPIS ones...

This was necessary due to a major upgrade of debian testing (on which Simply is based). KDE in testing switched to 3.3 so everyone who "apt-get upgraded" SimplyMEPIS was getting error messages when doing fairly routine things.
No conspiracy, no discrimination, just rolling with the punches.

Warren please consider cpuspeed vs cpufreqd. Cpuspeed allows me to run dynamically reducing heat as only when required, will processor speed increase. Net result cooler laptop, cooler legs and longer life.
I've patched it for debian but it is simple to do.

i love ProMEPIS:(
Anyway, is there any conclusion yet on the release date of ProMEPIS? Been waiting since the end of January (cuz it's said to be release around that time).
Understand you have priority for Boston, keep up the good work there.

Finally, my computer turns off when I ask it to.?? The last version with which that happened was?? SimplyMEPIS 2004.02, way back in October.?? All version since have required pressing the off switch, skipping the shutdown sequence.?? Thanks for fixing the bug.??

And what about ProMepis? I think it's a bit discriminated :| because originally it was supposed to be released shortly after SimplyMepis 2004 (at least I supposed it would be), and now it seems there will be second SimplyMepis release since then, and still no ProMepis :\
