Alright, I downloaded the image file, burned it to CD, booted my computer from the CD, watched the boot process scroll by and stop at the following:

Hmmm! I have no idea why it's asking me to login. I doubt it's asking me to create a user profile. Any help on understanding the login prompt and what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

It's iso 004.06. I'll try copying it to a partition and run it from there!

I was under the impression the os would load from the image/.iso I burned on the CD, but now I suspect I need to run it from the HDD. I'm being presented with a login Prompt, not a login screen. Anyways, I could only get the computer to boot from the CD once, even though the boot order in the bios is CD-ROM first. Thanks for your reply though.
Here's more info:
The last to lines in the boot sequence before the login: prompt are:
Starting K Desktop Manager: kdm
MEPIS Linux testing/unstable mepis1 tty1
Then comes -
login:
Using demo or root as passwords does nothing except return "incorrect login".
Nevermind folks, I figured it out. I just typed demo for both login and password. Dah!!! I'll get there yet!
I got past the login prompt only to see a command prompt. So apparently there is some hardware issue that's preventing the GUI to load. Since I'm not a programmer and have no experience with Linux (some DOS commands work, but I haven't the slightest idea how the file structure or attributes are like or what executable programs I could run. Typing dir at the prompt returns a few objects, what they are exactly I have no idea. They are obviously not directories or files. Apparently MEPIS is relatively new, so I suppose I should not be surprised by how small this forum is. I'll try poking around the knowledge base, if that doesn't help, I'll read most of the post here. I give this some time and effort, but it's not looking good. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this or responds.

If you are at the login screen with a choice of root or demo, demo password is demo and root password is root.
