8 in 1 Card Reader

I wonder if anyone can help me. Under Mepis 2004.2 I used to be able to read two cards in the SanDisk 8 in 1 card reader simultaneously, allowing drag and drop between two cards. Now I only have the dynamic mount point /dev/sda1, and the other mount points don't pop up when I plug the device in. I created the additional fstab entries as I have in the past when having problems, and created the linked files /mnt/flash1, /mnt/flash2, etc. but the updated fstab doesn't create the additional device drives on the desktop and doesn't allow me to mount simultaneously. I wondered if it was a "max_scsi_luns = some number" problem but I haven't run into that in a year.
Any help would be appreciated.

Which release?

I have a few of those readers....awesome little hunk of plastic, if you ask me.
I'm doing a re-do on a SM3.3 install tomorrow and, if that's the release you're using, I can dig into that as well.

That's nothing. If you play it forwards, it installs Windows!

Sorry. I am having this condition SimplyMepis 3.3, though it really is not a fatal problem. On my 2004.2 at home, which I use because I am using the old NVIDIA kernel and driver, it has also been wiggy with changes to the fstab. But I modify fstab, add flash1, 2, and 3 in /mnt, and they pop back up. Not the case with 3.3.
One of my problems is that I don't have a full understanding of what is dynamic in fstab, how it relates to the scsi lun number, and why it will decide to not create the flash folders in /mnt, and how can I make it work without dynamically changing.
