This should be a how-to, so it may be moved to that area. We have had many quesitons about Firefox or internet speed being slow (many users mistakenly base their internet connection speed on how fast firefox responds). Good find!

I was having a problem with www.wunderground.com and their images/thumbs loading. It appeared to be the only site affected. Your edits made all the difference between bliss and hair-pulling.
thanks!

Firefox Slow
Posts: 3
the 2.6.10 Kernal was slow for me with the two versions of Simply Mepis I have used irregardles of the web browser I tried.
Speed was not a problem with the 2.4+ Kernal; however, since my 3.3.1 Mepis came with Firefox, I chose to try hippy's recommendtions.
They worked for me. My 2.6.10 works as fast as I hoped it would when I bought my new netopia DSL modem.
Thank you hippy,

I had the same thing but shouldn't Mepis have these faster settings out of the box? It gave a really bad initial impression.

here's mine

these are all the settings i always use in firefox. i have these saved on a floppy so i know what to set on my first use of firefox. it came in very handy when i moved to the 2.6.12 kernel in mepis 3.3.2-02. i saved my home on upgrade but the new kernel dosen't work with the old firefox settings you have to delete it and start over. feel free to copy ,paste and save these for yourselves. i don't disable my ipv6 because more and more sites are using that and its faster. the general user agent overide is for M$ sites like hotmail where M$ is blocking browsers other than IE. my content settings are the most notiable difference from other postings mine are trimmed down but they work(it takes advantage of FF's defaults) i read alot and learned how FF works.

Thanks but also allot of those like (ui.submenuDelay", 0) arnt in my version of firefox. 1.0.3 I think

YOU MAKE THEM
Posts: 1504
You make them in about:config i have mine saved as a bookmark so i don't have to type about:config in the address bar when i want to change a setting. Anyways a quicklesson. Type about:config in adress bar, right click inside the page, select new, integer, in the box type ui.submenuDelay hit enter, then type 0. It's that easy close firefox for changes to take affect. You can make them all in one go instead of one then close. (since i have them saved i just copy and paste)
A quick meaning for each.
integar=number values
string=text (as in my user.agent.overide)
boolean=true or false
If you make a mistake right click on it click reset close firefox and it will be gone(all the ones you make only). This also works for the orignal ones if you change one of those and click reset it will return to it's orignal value.
All right schools out, have fun. I usally go to http://performance.toast.net/
to test my new settings i'll use Shuttle + text you'll get the better performance on the second run
changing about:config

browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs = true
The above line does not appear in about:config
I changed all the other lines that you identify.
How do I create that line? Is it necessary in order to complete the speed up of Firefox?
Thanks. Jeannine
