1280x768 resolution on Presario v2000 laptop

Greetings!
I installed Linux for the first time last night. Everyone was right... Mepis is totally awesome! Everything is running great. Just had one question though... I'm wondering how to set the resolution for my 1280x768 widescreen. I've looked over the forums, but haven't found anything that works yet. Can anyone help a total newbie?

Don't know exactly what made things work, but I altered several settings in the XF86Config-4 file and now it works! I love Mepis

That was aproblem for me too, had to figure it out by myself.
What was confusing is that the OS Control Center will trick you into thinking that if you set the resolution in there it will actually modify the X config file, which it DID, but not quite enough to add that video mode.
For those who have some Linux experience is good, but for a newbie it would be very hard. If this Os Control Center issue could be addressed, it would be very nice

My friend has a similar problem, there was another topic in this forum where someone suggested to try pressing F3 during boot-up, this shows you some boot arguments, where you can choose your resolution.
