button?

Emmm, when you say "button pressed", it sounds like you are expecting your scanner to operate by using the actual physical buttons. What you need to do is bring up the Kooka software and click on the Preview Scan or Final Scan button at the bottom of the window. It may be a minute or two before your scanner warms up and does the scan.
Good Luck

Scanner recognized?

When you start Kooka, does it recognize your scanner? Perhaps you should check your connections and make sure the scanner is on when you boot up your computer.
I know there have been recent problems with USB connections and that might be related here.
I am not sure what the GIMP problem is, but shouldn't affect your being able to use your scanner except if you wanted to work with the scanned images later.
ellandry scanner problems

Hello all - I too am having the same problems that ellandry is describing. My scanner (epson 3170) is recognized by the Kooka program but when I push either the preview or final scan buttons nothing happens.Yes,my scanner is turned on. Also; I somehow changed other settings on the scan program and now can't even locate those buttons anymore (preview/final). In other words I inadvertantly changed the Kooka views so now when I bring up Kooka I do not get the default view that I started out with. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks in advance for the help.

Sorry, no one else has come forward yet. I keep hoping there might be an expert to give you good advice
One thing I noticed on another forum is that it might be a good idea to update your version of Kooka, either with apt-get, Synaptic, or KPackage.
Also, if you are using Gimp to acquire the image, do you get the same results using Quiteinsane as you do in Xscanimage?

Hi again - thanks Mike Evans for your input. As far as what version I'm
using - it's from Simply 2004.06. I am not using GIMP and I'm so new to this I don't even understand the last 2 terms you're using. I do want to thank you for keeping an eye on this forum, though.

I have a similar problem with an Astra 2200 UMAX Scanner. I will keep looking here and elsewhere for answers.
Otherwise, SimplyMEPIS is working great for me.

hi again- i commented in previous post about kooka not showing the preview and scan buttons(views were changed from default). i uninstalled
and re-installed kooka and it did'nt help at all. one thing i did notice-if i login as root and then open kooka the default views are there and kooka looks normal again. i did'nt try to scan anything as root. does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Can anyone help me?
