Dlink G520

Totally new to linux, loving this MEPIS. But I can't get my Dlink G520 to work. KWiFi manager says I get good signal, but it never connects. Someone told me to dl madwifi from apt-get, so I did (i didn't get madwifi-modules-2.4.24-isgee-neptun-1, or madwifi-source did I need those) now that the madwifi is dl'd and it did somehting in a konsole window, what do I do next???
remember I need baby steps. Are those drives installed now??? Do I need to compiles something, restart, run something???

Have you gone to OS Control Center?

I too have a DLink G520 and haven't had any real problems. The only issue I had initially was getting it to go to the right network. I solved this by going to the OS Control Center in Mepis. Go to Network Interfaces. From there you see the atHo and Wireless tabs. In atHo I set my IP address and in wireless I told it my network name and WEP key. If you haven't done these things then it probably just isn't signing on to your network and that is why you are getting signal but no connection. Be sure to hit "Apply" on each screen or it won't save your changes. I also found that out the hard way. Then go to the main screen, hit "stop atHo" and "start atHo" and hopefully it will start working.

Of course you've probably done all this already. But I screwed around with Kwifi manager (which seems almost completely useless to me) for nearly an hour before I figured out I had to go put in my encryption key in OS Control Center. Maybe I'm just an idiot. Ok, I'm definitely an idiot. But I'm learning. Slowly.
