Further to all the above I happened to be at the UltimateBoot CD site
There are three tutorals there, you just replace the name used of the ISO file of:-
ubcd32_basic.iso (or ubcd32_full.iso)
with the SimplyMEPIS-3.3.iso or whatever ISO you use
Have a look here:- http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/tutorials.html
The three tutorials here are for these windows programs

Step-by-step instructions for using Roxio???s Easy Media Creator 7 to burn the Ultimate Boot CD ISO file to CDR/CDRW
(2)
How to burn the Ultimate Boot CD ISO file to CDR/CDRW using Nero Express 5
(3)
Burning the Ultimate Boot CD ISO to a CD with Nero SmartStart and Nero Express 6
This is explained a lot better than I can do it, the principle of how to burn an ISO image is the same for any ISO file, best of luck. yours john

Go here and download SimplyMepis 3.3 ISO 702,304KB :
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/mepis/released/
If you are in Windose l believe you can right click on it and burn it with Nero or what ever burning software you have. Don't open your burning software and copy it to a CD that way because the Image won't be opened. An ISO is an Image file.

No no no, if you look at the size of the files in these 2 subfolders off the released folder ? you will see that they will not even fit on a single CD even if you wanted to do that !!
BTW - we all talk about DIRECTORIES and do not refer to them as "folders" that is just dumbo talk, a Folder is a Directory, the term Folder was coined by Macintosh for its dumbo users and then later on the word Folder was adopted by Microsoft (around Win95 days) to try to make things user friendly for non experianced computer users (EG: your Granny)
A "folder" is just another name that has been used for DIRECTORY
NOW
For your information an ISO file is a image that you burn to a CD, that is you burn it as an IMAGE to the CD - most cd burning programs have this option some where in the menu system - look for some thing like - in NERO for = Recorder -> Burn Image - or something like CD -> Burn image
NOTE: do not waste your time just putting a copy of the ISO file onto a CD - this is not Burning an image to CD
There are so many CD burning programs it is hard to be explicite as they often have different meun systems (I have to assume you use Windows ?). So if you are not sure ask one of your friends How To BURN A IMAGE (eg. burn an ISO as an image to a CD)
Anyhow unless you want and older version of Mepis (2003 or 2004) I would not even bother with them - but get the other ISO that is in in the " released " directory = SimplyMEPIS-3.3.iso (dated Feb 2005) 689.6Mb
and
also get the " SimplyMEPIS-3.3.iso.md5sum " this is very small and you can view it with Wordpad - inside is an alpha-numeric number with which you can verify that the large .iso was not corrupted when you downloaded it - if your using Win - here is a FREE md5sum checker you can use on the CD ISO file (before you burn it as an image to CD)
Go here: http://winmd5sum.solidblue.biz and get winMd5Sum and install it (NB: it is very small to download)
When you use it if (any) ISO does not give exactly the same number as in its xxxxxxxxxxx.md5sum file then it is correupt. (think of it like a CRC check - it is not the same thing but it gives you an idea)
OK I hope that helps you - as most Unix/Linux users are not very helpful to people using Windows - but you gotta get started some how.
REMEMBER
You "do not" copy ISO files to a CD - you BURN THEM AS AN IMAGE
So you will have to work out how to do that first in what ever program you are using. - Best of luck - hope you can work it all out now
