Scanner setup help

I am a newbie to SimplyMepis 3.3 who has had good luck for a beginner except that I haven't been able to get my Memorex MEM48U Scanner working. Hope you can help me.

Going to GIMP, File, Acquire, QuiteInsane, Scan or Select Device, I get the QuiteInsane screen with Device Name: artec_eplus48u:libusb:002:002, Vendor: Memorex, Model: MEM48U, Type: USB Flatbed Scanner. When I Select Device, I get "SANE Mess: Unknown Error".

Going to GIMP, File, Acquire, xscanimage, I get error "Failed to open device 'artec_eplus48u:libusb:002:002': Invalid argument".

Any suggestions? Hope someone who has had success with this scanner can guide me through the setup. Many thanks.
