Kubuntu get deleted, Mepis Reinstalled
I have two computers, one is my Main computer, my other is my test computer. Kubuntu was running flawless for over a month, and was on my main box. I was running Mepis on my Test box (i like to keep an eye on it and see if any goodies pop up .

But back to the story. Kubuntu, was running great and very stable, until last thursdays update. Whatever they did totally f-ed konqueror, it is very unstable. Tried rebuilding it a few different ways and still the same issue. Many other users are complaining about the same exact issue (signal 11, with the same exact back trace) so i know its not just me.

The main reason i switched to Kubuntu was it out of the box Nvidia 6600gt support (which i could never get working under mepis). Now with this new konqueror bug in kubuntu i could not think of a way to fix it so i decided, im gonna try Mepis again. After scoping these boards, i found something i did not ever attempt before to resolve my Mepis Nvidia Woes, Disableing Twinview. Duh! So i comment all the Twinview lines out of xfree config, and BAM, 6600GT on MEPIS!!!

So i put Kubuntu on the Beta Box, annd it will probably stay there as i do not trust Kubuntu's dev's, i think they got a little trigger happy. Once they fix this bug and it stays bug free for 3 months, ill consider putting it on my main box. And by bug free i mean bugs that serious affect the system as a whole.

So maybe i got bit in the ass by being too bleeding edge with Kubuntu.

Another thing i have noticed, ive found that Xfree takes about half the cpu resources as Xorg did. I dont know if this is because of Kubuntus implementation or Xorg itself. So i do not miss xorg at all. Kde 3.4 on the other hand i will miss greatly

So as Kubuntu had my "Just Works" certification, it lost it last thursday. It needs to be polished and i wont run it for at least another 3 months of beta testing.

Well, you won't be without

Well, you won't be without KDE 3.4 because SimplyMepis-3.4 is due out in May. Hey, Mepis is the best Good Buddy Smiling I've tried a pile of distros and they all just disappointed me so I'm sticking with the Greatest.

I've tried SuSE, Mandrake,

I've tried SuSE, Mandrake, Yoper, Kubuntu, Beatrix, Ubuntu, and SimplyMepis.

Ubuntu had me for a while - it's actually a pretty good distro. But it wouldn't detect my printer (plus I don't like GNOME as much as KDE).

SimplyMepis wins. It IS the best. And KDE 3.4 is on the way!
