Hi,
The refresh rate depends on your video card and monitor, not on Mepis.
Perhaps the monitor and video card were not correctly detected and that was how the XF86Config-4 file was configured.
Could you please check the file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 for details ?

I just ran it off the live cd.
I'll try later on the weekend after i do an install.
