Ndiswrapper not working for a supported Belkin 802.11g F5D7000 card
Posts: 51
I used ndiswrapper and installed the win98 driver (bcmw5la.inf)for my card into ndiswrapper because the winxp driver (bcmw5l.inf) didn't work. With my win98 driver it told me that the hardware and driver were present. Then I did ndiswrapper -m so that ndiswrapper runs whenever wlan0 is brought up. I then configured everything in the MEPIS OS Center with the same configuration as the wireless setup on my XP partition. When I restarted it said the following message:
ndiswrapper(add_wep_key:632): adding encrption key 1 failed (0010015)
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A): Set failed on device wlan0: Invalid arg
SIOCADDRT: File exists
Failed to bring up wlan0
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Any help appreciated!

Should I reinstall ndiswrapper? Or try it with kernel 2.4.29?

I have done some research.

I have done some research. It seems that the MEPIS OS center is using WEP only for the encryption and it can only support like 5 letter passwords. I was trying to put my WPA password into it and that's why it kept saying invalid argument at bootup.
It works if I have a 5 letter password. But I want to use WPA, so I don't have that limitation. Is there a way to switch to WPA in the MEPIS OS center?
I just went through what you did for a whole day!

This helped me more than anything I had found...not to mention that I deleted all relevant drivers that I had put on trying to get this card to work(-e). Follow the direction in previous link. Then system configuration/MEPIS utilities and put in the SSID and WPA key and checked the hex button cause that's what I use. Click the status tab, stop the wireless adapter, Restart it and Wallah it worked and I am now on the net via my Belkin Wireless G Desktop Network Card F5D7000 N10117.... Who knew dell drivers would work so well!! Love the switch to linux and love MEPIS-J-
