VPNC setup problem!! Please HELP

I'm a newbie to Linux. I installed Mepis 3.3 recently.
I tried this alternative for CISCO VPN client, to access wireless internet at our work-place.

The Konsole reads :
# vpnc
Enter IPSec gateway address: xxx.xxx.x.x
Enter IPSec ID for xxx.xxx.x.x: public
Enter IPSec secret for :
Enter username for xxx.xxx.x.x:
Enter password for @xxx.xxx.x.x:
vpnc started in the bacground (pid: 3563)...

but the internet is not connected..
I disabled the firewall, added to route, but still..it wont work.
Please help me out.
