USB Flash Drive problems
Posts: 3
Hi everyone.
I'm not sure if this topic has been covered, but I have been looking without any luck.
I am using a flash disk to save some important files.
It works fine so long as I have the disk plugged in when booting up, otherwise, if I plug it in once already running, it doesn't show up at all.
Am I missing something, or are there settings that I need to change?
I know that in that dreaded Microsoft Windows, I can plug it in after the OS is running, and it will show up.
It's quite annoying to have to restart just because I forgot to plug in before boot up.
Thanks for your time - much appreciated!

It has been covered, but it it still a pending issue I'd say.
To be able to hotplug your uSB drive:
1. boot with drive plugged in
2. log on as normal user, and as root (file system super user mode) open /etc/fstab . If you get an error that Kwrite could not be started, open a Konsole (in the same session) and type xhost +. This disables X access security in case yo wanna know
3. The line in dynamic entries that starts sth like /dev/sda should be moved to the static section.
That's it, from now on you can plug / unplug. Be sure to unmount before unplugging!!!! When you copy a large file this can take a while, and if you do not unmount, unplugging might lead to data loss.
Cheers
