Customizing KDE Personal Files Window (Konquerer)

Jon Du Quesne's picture

I'm trying to add a few items to Mepis' documentation to help folks to get more out of the use of this distribution. Here's one way that I have customized the Personal Files window in KDE that has helped me.

I find that the "Personal Files" window that's brought up by default has icons that are too small (for my aging eyes). It is possible to make changes and then save them as the default so that next time the window is opened by the icon, it will look the same. The suggestions below are only a sample. you can make other customization also.

First, start up Konqueror. Do this by clicking on the icon that looks like a house on the control panel. If you hoover the mouse over it, the help will say "Personal Files". You can also start it up by first pressing the "K" and choosing "Home (Personal Files)".

Once Konqueror has started you can make various changes.

To change the size of the icons, choose the View menu. Then choose "Icon Size" and finally the size icons that you like. Try "Medium".

Another useful modification is to check "Show Hidden Files".

If you like all of the settings that you have made, make them permanent by choosing the Settings menu. Then choose 'Save View Profile "filemanagement"'. A Profile Management window will open with "filemanagement" highlighted. Click on the Save button.
