can't install nvidia drivers

hello, i have previously installed my nvidia drivers correctly on ubuntu linux, but when i try to on simply mepis 3.3.1 it says that i need the kernel-source package, and already have that package, how can i install it properley?

Are you trying to compile

Are you trying to compile the drivers or use the ones that we provide for you?

nvidia

mustardfish.frenzy, have you been into
mepis os centre > mouse and display > nvidia tab and put a checkmark against official nvidia driver

with this latest release of mepis 3.3.1 thats all i had to do, but before that this is how i had to do it see this link http://www.mepis.org/node/6415

if all goes well and nvidia works its worth then pinning see here http://www.mepislovers-wiki.org/index.php?title=Pinning_nvidia_drivers

good luck

./hippy

linux reg no #371875

i tried doing that thing in

i tried doing that thing in OS centre, and it doesn't work

have you tried the way i

have you tried the way i showed in this link http://www.mepis.org/node/6415

it worked for me, hope it can for you

./hippy

linux reg no #371875

i did it without

i did it without re-installing, is that a problem, because it still doesn't work

edit: when i click apply, the checkbox clears... is that supposed to happen?

So...will hippy's

So...will hippy's instructions work even if my video card isn't detected as a nvidia product? I need to look at my config file to verify that, but it never mentioned anything about finding a nvidia product on the install. That, and the nvidia box is greyed out.

I have a GeForce FX5500 in the AGP slot, so it's not new cutting edge technology...

...BUMP...

...BUMP...

nvidia

jpummi_66, my card is not at all cutting edge its an nvidia geforce2 mx 400, now as i say in that post it worked for me with that card

if i tried it in your case i presume you have mepis installed on hard drive then i would start at number 12 and go from there

if it does not work for you then boot off the live cd and re install xconfig to get you back to where you are now, also make a note of the files you downloaded so you can then remove them if necessary

finally if it does work then it's a good idea to pin them, read here:

good luck

./hippy

linux reg no #371875

Hey all, Sorry about the

Hey all,

Sorry about the bump, but I really want to get this resolved, so...

I am going to try starting at item #12 as hippy suggested first, and if nothing else works...I'll do the compile.

Sounds as if the step by step instructions have a pretty good chance of resolving my issues.

I do have Mepis installed onto the harddrive and am loving it. My screen resolution is a bit fuzzy, but that may be in part due to the 1024X768 and the standard drivers. I am using a new Samsung 730B LCD panel and the OS Center shows the monitor frequency to be 50Hz. I plan on digging out the book and boosting the frequencies to whatever is documented in the book.

Thanks,

Jeff

i booted off the cd and

i booted off the cd and tried to re-install X-config, but as soon as i click it it came up with a "successful installaion" message, is it supposed to happen that fast, i have a 52x speed cd-rom reader, and an intel celeron 2.66 ghz celeron (i despise it, i prefer AMD) just so you can tell me if the speed isn't unnatural.

i went back into MEPIS (the one on my hard drive) and then tried installing the nvidia drivers from os centre again, and it did that weird thing where the checkbox unchecks itself
