Guarddog: how to make sure this is running

I'm rather new to Linux and to Mepis. When I installed SM3.3 a few months ago, I believe Guarddog was set in running mode when I turned on my computer. I think I changed something in the past and now think that Guarddog is *not* running when it should be. What do I set - and where - so that Guarddog always runs at startup?

Thanks

iptables

Guarddog is just a nice interface to iptables which is built on the linux kernel. There is no any running proccess called guarddog.
To know if guarddog has set up iptables or not you have to display the iptables list.

Open a console as root and type "iptables -L" to see all the rules in iptables. Chek these rules with the firewall enabled or disabled.

check guarddog

Simply open guarddog from the KDE menu (if you use KDE-I don't), it should ask for root password so you can make changes. Go to advanced and make sure disable firewall is not checked.

You could also try another firewall package called firestarter. This is graphical and loosely styled on zone alarm. I think you can find it in synaptic, or apt-get install firestarter within a console (as root)

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

test your firewall here -

test your firewall here - run Shields Up

If all is not green (stealth) run Guarddog, goto Protocols Tab
and enable "things" (pop3, edonkey, ftp, http, etc).

go to Shields up again to test
