make boot more verbose

Hi,

Im looking at the goings on of mepis at startup. is there a way of making the boot up more verbose as my boot hangs at usb support for about 4 seconds and i think something is loading that i don't know about.

i have been using bootchart and im getting times of 1 minute which isn't bad but i'd like to know exactly whats going on.
