fstab edits not being saved

Can anyone please tell me: If I open up fstab after having accessed it from File manager superuser, and addied lines, and SAVED it, when I next re-boot, fstab does NOT contain the additional lines? I'm starting to get very frustrated with all this.

Folders created in /mnt don't stick either

If I go to /mnt in superuser filemanager and create mount points, after re-boot, THEY don't appear either! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

When you edited /etc/fstab,

When you edit /etc/fstab, you need to add permanent changes before the "dynamic" line.

After doing that, if the mount points are still disappearing, provide more details on how you're creating them.

fstab

in mepis is recreated every boot.
you can see it happen in the bootup messages.
so it looks again at every usb port and hard drive.
there are big advantages to this, with one disadvantage if you haven't read the instructions.
At the top of my file it says
"STATIC entries below"
and near the bottom
"DYNAMIC entries below"
(my caps).
