Mepis Freezes after connecting successfully

Hey guys,
I have recently (after 2 days of googling) fixed up my wlan0 (pcmcia) to change ESSID and key to the correct ones so it can connect to my wireless router.
This was done using ndiswrapper (because my Marvell PCMCIA isn't supported automatically by MEPIS) and iwconfig (to configure the variables like ESSID).
My problem now is that after about 5 seconds of connecting to the LAN, the OS hangs and stops responding for some reason. Is there something I'm doing wrong or can I fix this?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S. I think it freezes when the DHCP gives me an IP....But I'm not 100% sure.
Well...

Well, this is a two year old thread. So, you may not have the same issues.
What wireless adapter are you using? Is it the same PCMCIA adapter the OP of this thread was using (Marvell chipset) and you're trying to use it with ndiswrapper?
What do you get when you type this from a console:
iwconfig
How about this:
ndiswrapper -l
I've got a Belkin Wireless G Adapter that has a few quirks with SimplyMEPIS. It uses the rt2570 chipset.
In order to get it working, I have to go into the MEPIS Network Assistant (you'll find it under the icon in your system tray that looks like a Monitor with a screwdriver over it), and set it up for DHCP, with the boxes checked so that it automatically at bootup.
If I try to start it from a Live CD first (using restart on OK or apply), it locks up the PC for some reason.
But, if I don't try to use that feature, it works just fine from a hard disk install.
So, you could have a similar issue (or a conflict with another driver, since sometimes more than one driver is being used for the same card and you have to remove the one conflicting).
I'd give more info on what you have for a Wireless Adapter first.
This will show you any interfaces with drivers installed recognized if you type it from a console:
iwconfig
This will show you if ndiswrapper is seeing it (but, sometimes you may need to remove a driver that's conflicting):
ndiswrapper -l
If we can't figure out it from there, it may be necessary to type in a few more commands to give us a better idea of what chipset you have and what drivers are being loaded for it. But, it's probably a solvable problem.

Hello,
Sorry for the bump, but I get the same problem in MEPIS 6.5.
Whenever I establish a connection using wlan0 (or any other wireless lan interface), the OS just stops working, freezes.
If anyone knows a fix for this, it would be greatly appreciated, so buying this wireless router will not have been useless. =P Thanks.
