Also, found installation slower than Mepis 3.3.1-1.

tried it

i tried mepislite for 2 days it had very little difference from simplymepis i'd rather have the whole version instead of this trimmed down slowed version. any ways no matter, moved to the new mepis 3.3.2-test02 witch is up to its old speed plus has 2.6.12 kernel. it had a few gotcha's for me but nothing i couldn't work past.

MEPISLite 3.3.1-2.test03

In test02 the sound on my Thinkpad T40 worked but the modem was flakey (Agere AC97 ICH4 Sound/Modem). Now with Test03 the sound doesn't work and the modem works great. ACPI Helper for KLaptop works great.

In SimplyMEPIS 3.3.2.test02 the modem and sound works correctly but can't activate the ACPI Helper in KLaptop.

When I've tried Debian 3.1 the sound and ACPI helper works great, The modem and Kmilo doesn't work.

Hopefully when the next version of SimplyMEPIS comes out you'll have the ACPI helper working and not affect the sound or modem.

Never the less Mepis is a good Distro, keep up the good work. Smiling

Will Lite be upgradable?

The way I understand it, Lite will only be available by buying it from a third-party distributor. Does that mean that the testing version will not be upgradable online to the final one?

I'm perfectly happy with regular ol' Mepis, but was thinking of Lite for my partner's old (PII 133) box. From the press release and the sparse other descriptions I could find, it sounds like the main difference is from dropping Openoffice, which she would need. So if OO is installed to Lite, will it be smaller and faster enough to matter? Right now, documentation (that I can find anyway) is really sparse, to the point that it's probably hurting Lite's chances in the market.

From what I can tell, I'm thinking the better bet would be something like Damn Small or Vector, which use lighter WMs, but I'd love to hear why MLite would be a better answer.
