apt-get update and upgrade problems

I have been having a lot of trouble updating the source files using synaptic and finally had some success in part I got the following URL (ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/)with unstable distribution and only the main and contrib sections not the non free sectionto work. I still cant get into either the Mepis 3.3.1 or Mepis 3.3.2 URL's at all.

all this trouble started when I upgraded apt,apt-tools,synaptic and the corresponding lib files. this was before I read about the apt-listbugs program for apt and I am sure that my os has now got a few bugs in these programs.I know that I am not the only one having problems with apt-get/synaptic/kpackage and I am sure that the problems will be ironed out by the Mepis and Debian teams in time but for now be sure to download and use the apt-listbugs program and just say no to buggy programs unless you want to be a beta tester. I hope this will help anyone who is having the same problems I have encountered.
