3.3.2.test03 works GREAT

As a counterweight to the negative stories that have been spread on this forum, I just wish to say 3.3.2test02 works GREAT for me.

I installed Nvidia drivers from within the installer, and it works. Power save option works OK now as well, whereas I had problems with that earlier.

Sound works OK for me.

Oh, and USB hotplug works out of the box now. Considering that this stick has never worked 'hotpluggably' on any stock Mepis version before, I find this quite an improvement. Curious if other people have the same experience.

I have NOT performed any upgrade via Synaptic yet. Since I have installed this version on a test partition, I will try do do a dist upgrade with unable repos marked active. I'll let y'all know what happens.

The speed difference is noticeable. Everything is quite snappy. Boot time seems faster as well.

Cheers

agreement

carlops, i have to agree with you, i thought i was the only one that had no problems, i think there is a speed increase in boot up and as you say all is working well, my only prob and i have looked around and thats the font installer does not work
KDE Control Module
Error:
/usr/lib/libkfontinst.so.0: undefined symbol: FTC_SBit_Cache_Lookup

qtech, has the same issue, how about you?

Looks good to me as well

All the problems I had with Test02 are corrected in Test03. SUB Hotplug works great. I have the same problem with font installer but it's the only issue I have but I see it as a non-issue.

font installer-simply mepis 3.3.2 - test03

okay first i am not encouraging users to go ahead and follow what i did, it is safer to wait for all kde 3.4.2 to get uploaded to unstable. but i downloaded the following packages available in unstable and any extra files they added
kappfinder (4:3.4.2-1)
kate (4:3.4.2-1)
kcontrol (4:3.4.2-1)
kcron (4:3.4.2-1)
kdat (4:3.4.2-1)
kdeadmin (4:3.4.2-1)
kdeadmin-kfile-plugins (4:3.4.2-1)
kdebase (4:3.4.2-1)
kdebase-kio-plugins (4:3.4.2-1)
kdepasswd (4:3.4.2-1)
kdeprint (4:3.4.2-1)
kdesktop (4:3.4.2-1)
kfind (4:3.4.2-1)
khelpcenter (4:3.4.2-1)

on rebooting i got kde 3.4.2 and the font installer works now, but as i have said i am not encouraging you try this, i did because i have a test partition and dont mind if i break things

font installer broken

Yes, font installer is indeed broken. One other issue that ought to be improved is the XF86Config tweaking. Although I choose the correct monitor from the live CD and install then, I still have to enter it again once mepis is installed.

BTW, the install went freakin fast!! The whole procedure, with my clumsy typing and all, took 11 minutes from start to finish..... That's amazing!!

I also noticed that finally KDE sound system works correctly with ALSA on my system. Before the sound would be choppy, but now it looks like it's fine.

Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question
