Webcam Support
Posts: 6
I am involved in a project to deploy some Linux PCs and Latops with Webcam and GnomeMeeting. I would prefer using Simply Mepis for this project, due to the ease of use/install and now with the traveler's disk.
What I am lacking is a list of webcams that are known to work "out of the box" with Mepis as the end users are computer novices and I will not have access to some of the machines, I will just be sending out the CD.
Please reply with models that you know are pure plug and play. So far, I am the proud owner of three webcams that will not work without additional modules or kernel recompiles.
Thanks in advance

Hey hippy, do you got your kde 3.4.2 fully working now? I was thinking of upgrading mine from the kde 3.3.2 to that one and compiling the missing stuff from the kde main site. How did you go about upgrading yours?

kerry, apologies for late reply but i got so busy yesterday, anyway kde is coming along day by day thats how im installing, each night new packages are entering the unstable repos i install those without doing an upgrade and when that is done i then check what is going to be updated using default so far its going well and all is working as it should

kckunz, i have never bothered with web cams, however after seeing your post i dug out a labtec webcam, the following is from running kudzu -p
class: OTHER
bus: USB
detached: 0
driver: quickcam
desc: "Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Express"
usbclass: 0
usbsubclass: 0
usbprotocol: 0
usbbus: 2
usblevel: 1
usbport: 0
usbdev: 2
vendorId: 046d
deviceId: 0870
usbprod: Camera
i am running
simply mepis 3.3.2 - test 03
kde 3.4.2
on opening up camstream and selecting file > open viewer, the device was recognised and working, i did not have to alter modules or do any extra kernel compiling, it just worked in camstream
hope this helps
