I like this link

some of these story's are just crazy.

Why is it

that some Linux users feel the urge to bash Microsoft? Personally I still use Windows and I've never had the amount of problems with Windows that I've experienced setting up a Linux install.

I'm taken a break!

Hi
Those stories are just plain nuts!
I prefer Linux to Microsoft, but I have never had the urge to bash Microsoft.
It is not a bad OS if you unplug it from the internet, but it is just not safe to use it on the net.
But some people enjoy atacking it, O well it takes all sorts.
Regards Jim

Windows can be as safe

If you set up a user that has the same permissions like Linux distro do Windows can be just as safe. The biggest problem is you get people who piss and moan as to why they have to log out and then log in as an adminstrator to install a program and then set limited permissions for the users.

My opinion is that Linux

My opinion is that Linux users are safer now, because we're too few to be sexy for the hackers and script kiddies. But in the meantime, all the hours I'm saving now can be spent actually USING my computer.....

Sshhhh, don't tell anybody. If they all start using it they are gonna spoil all the fun .....

Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question

I use windows to

OK, this was just meant to be some light reading for those who were interested in getting away from there computer problems for awhile. This was not meant to bash microsoft, i my self use both windows and mepis and enjoy the use of both. I apoligize to any one who was offended by this link. It was sent to me from a friend for the purpose of a quick laugh(he is a windows user).

Well let me put it this way:

Well let me put it this way: Windows users lost their capacity to detect humour because of too many viruses and problems that they encountered lately... or maybe because they paid too much for substandard software during their troubled computing life... just a guess... don't shoot!

I would completly lose my humour sense too if someone would make fun of the crappy software for which I paid $199 or so.

Funny I've never had a virus using Windows and that in the last 9 years. I've never paid more than $100 for any copy of Windows.

I think the main reason Linux users bash Windows is due to the fact that most can't get Linux to work properly so they take out their frustrations on Windows.

Funny, I don't have any problem with Linux, but since my job is to fix Windows, I can tell you that I'm really frustrated with that piece of #@$%.

I never paid for Windows, I've been paid to work on it. I got virus only once, when I installed Windows and forgot to unplug it for 1 (one) minute from network before installing the patches. But like somebody else said it when I use it I feel like I'm my underwear.

Ok, you didn't pay $199 and you are happy with it -- I'm glad for you. Whatever works for you... however you'll probably have to pay that or even more to the shrink to see why you lost you sense of humour. *grin*

Ok please stop! This is childish, there is no reason to hurt each others feelings. I will no longer post any links concerning microsoft.please drop this now.

Let me guess, you one of those paper cert wonders who doesn't have a clue how to properly setup Windows yet has an IT position?

Come on guys, cool off a bit.

Londojowo, I understand you like Windows. To a certain degree, so do I, but I have been charmed by the very idea of a worldwide movement that to a great extent has voluntarily created the whole Linux scene. Problem is that the two worlds have drifted apart. For sure, the Linux community is not the only one who carries all the blame for that. Microsoft and e.g. SCO have not been really friendly towards the Linux movement, and the sheer thought of MS coming down like a ton of bricks with all the lawyers of the world is a sword of Damocles that is still lingering above many heads. So there will be some frustration, please understand that.

And to all Linux adepts I'd like to say: don't try to prove you made the right choice by hammering away on the 'other's' supposed weaknesses. We might be a bit more humble. When Firefox made it big time (and what a great story that is for the OSS movement), security issues were not far behind. I choose Linus for now because it fits my needs, because I like the ideas behind it and because I want to be part of something that I consider an important asset for the future. Anyone has their reasons, and I sure sheer hatred for MS will be the least found.

That thing with the shrink was a joke, probably not the best joke, but I didn't attack you, or at least I didn't mean to, this is clear a personal attack and it's tasteless.

And no, I do not have any problem with Windows because I know how to configure it, although it's a pain, but other people have (even if as a Microsoft defender would put it "is their fault").

Anyway, my califications, IQ and other personal issues are beyond the point, I would be happy if you had arguments that doesn't attack my person, but my arguments...

PLEASE STOP!

Both of u are acting childish! Just let it go! Both OS's are great at what they do and for who they do it for. There is nothing truly great about any os out there, they all have there good and bad. This is a point less argument.

Messenger Shooting Time!

No, I won't do that kerry; you'se one o' Da Posse Cool

I read through both of your posts and found them amusing. My favorite from the first post was how Windows is going to start using the "Solitaire Screen of Death" so end-users can amuse themselves until MS Tech Support calls them (could be a loooong game). Microsoft may have billions, but humor like that is priceless Smiling

Humor and satire are a good way to pull the rug out from under a person's notions about things. And it's a legitimate way to get people to examine possible shortcomings and weaknesses. Computer programmers (and users) can get so offended about THEIR OS. But dammit, I LIKE CP/M Smiling

To me somehow, "March of The Penguins" takes on so much more meaning (sniff)!

(An excellent movie by the way)

hey Jon Du Quesne

Can u beleave just from that war's have started and country's have been brought to there knee's.Muuhaha, i have seen the light.

Ok I agree that was a low blow

Why don't we call a truce? I run Linux (SuSE 9.3 and Mepis 3.3.2-Test03) and WinXP Pro.

I make my living working around Windows based computers as well as electronics and machinery.

You're a magnanimous person,

You're a magnanimous person, londojowo. I admire that.

Cheers, and do stay on.

Well Said!

Well said carlops!

Welcome to the group londojowo!

How come I keep getting images of the Ubuntu Linux distribution?

Jon

Circle of friends or

circle (fill in the blank)? LOL...Eye-wink

I'll have to admit if I didn't see so much /bin/bash /microsoft/windows/billgates in the Linux forums it wouldn't bother me. Granted I've looked over the link provided and some things were actually funny.Laughing out loud

Don't worry I plan on sticking around, I like SimplyMepis and have not only purchase some swag but a 6 month subscription...Smiling

Keep Up The Comments

Well londojowo, it's always nice to have more folks around here. More folks, more opinions, more answers, more right (some wrong) Smiling

Yeah, sometimes the opinions get a little toasty, but I think that most everyone around here means well. Share what you know, learn more, swap ideas, bad jokes, and misunderstandings with us and the (electronic) friendships will grow!

BTW, do any of you recall what the original, controversial Ubuntu desktop looked like?

Jon
