in kde 3.4 the devices do not show extra partitions etc, to overcome this do the following:

open file manage super user mode

enter root password

right mouse click on devices > properties > url tab and changed devices:/ to media:/

do this for both root and home

updating k3b

Hi Hippy
While updating k3b 3.3.2 test 3.My update down loaded 187 packages. After install of packages my system is now running 3.4.2.
On install I had to say yes to questions asked on install konsole after locals installed. It then asked to replace packages and i said yes each time. When I rebooted machine I now had a debain system.I have been running with no problems that I can see.Where did mepis go?I have tried this twice as I could not believe it,with same results. Thanks john

Hey golden45

I've done it several times since the start of the probems and ya the new debian looks good. Make sure u lock a2p and do a smart upgrade so u get all of kde 3.4.2 so u don't have any missing parts, make sure u run through the list of fixes for all the changed stuff. Enjoy the new look!

I think hippy is is running the same as u with full update.

upgrade 3.4.2

Thanks for info,its appreciated-will check update.John

hey john

I just removed mine so i could try suse, I had one regular version and one updated version of mepis. I keep a extra partion for testing so i don't mess up my current install.I finished testing the full update so i moved on to a different distro for testing. Suse is already running kde 3.4.2 so i'm already up to date on that. I just finished testing Elive before that, but i always have a running mepis. My current mepis install only has firefox updated because i need it fully funtional for mom's work. If U follow all the fixes u should have a fully functional system. Have Fun!

From The Other Jon

Kerry, it sounds like you and hippy are moving right along on successful testing of 3.3.2. Would you care to give a quick "howto" on steps to bring a 3.3.1(-1) system up to 3.3.2? I haven't bothered to do any testing with .2 because I'm keeping busy keeping my production boxes, uh, producing Smiling

Both of you (and others) have posted LOTS of stuff all over the forum, so I'm just wondering if either of you is at a place that you can condense it all to one place?

Thanks

Jon

Jon Du Quesne

I'll try and get every thing together and post all the fixes in one go.
I like to make it simple for new people to follow so let me take a little time condesing it all.

Rats!

Gee kerry, ya mean it's not as easy as:

1) Insert SimplyMepis 3.3.2 CD
2) Do stuff
3) ???
4) Works!

Smiling

Yes, it's always tough, after going through the ins, outs, ups, downs of a configuration to figure out, "Now how did I do that again?"

And hey, maybe you can sell it on EBay. 'Course Da Posse's gonna be watchin' Cool

Hippy,

Thanks for the tip, I was completely befuddled by this.

Jon,

I tried 'step 3' of your instructions but grub kept saying "apply, rinse, repeat".
