Nedd help configuring Robotics modem, please.

My modem is a US Robotics, 56K, Sportster, external, model 0459 and I'm using
Mepis, KDE version3.3.2 Release 2.6.10

I have been unable to get online using the KPPP dial-up connection.

The settings I have been using are the defaults:-

Modem device = /dev/modem
Flow control = Hardware [CRTSCTS]
Line termination = CR/LF
Connection speed = 460800

When I 'Query' the modem, I get 'Modem ready', then 'Modem query results'.

When I try to logon it gets to 'Initializing' and freezes up.

(I can use this exact same procedure with an external 'Winmodem' but it will only
logon at 9600 baud, which is why I bought the Robotics modem.)

I would appreciate it if someone could help me here.

Thanks.

Lewis.

modem sttings

Hi Lewis,

try changing your modem device to /dev/ttyS0 or ttyS1 depending on which port you have it connected to, and set your speed to 57600, which is the maximum you can get on dial-up.

hope this might help you.

Mike

Re: Need help configuring Robotics modem, please.

Thanks for your reply, Mike.

Unfortunately this did not help. In fact I have tried 10 different permutations of the KPPP connection tool but _still_ cannot get it to dial.

Kind regards.

Lewis.

One thing that jumps out at

One thing that jumps out at me is the speed might need to come down to 115200 (that's the speed between the computer and the modem). I think you need to save any value that you change before you test it, too...
Oh yeah, I had to use the older kernel for some USR modems.
