MEPISLite 3.3.2 Test01 has better hardware compatibility

Morgantown, WV, September 27, 2005: MEPISLite 3.3.2-test01 is available in the testing subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and public mirrors. This release includes the pr2 version of the upcoming DCC base kernel. For up to 30 days, please send feedback about MEPISLite and the kernel to dev@mepis.org

The 2.6 kernel was updated because performance and compatibility with this kernel has been excellent. Also this kernel uses initrd to support SCSI and USB bootable partitions. This is the first step toward MEPIS converting to only building and using standards compliant kernels.

The HP printer support has been improved through the introduction of the packages from the HP Linux Printing Project.

The dhcp client was changed to the more standard dhcp3-client package and the network configuration tools have been simplified.

MEPISLite is an entry level version of desktop MEPIS designed for home users. It has been used successfully with as little as a 2 GB hard drive and a Pentium 2 processor with 128MB of RAM. MEPISLite preinstalls a full complement of software including KOffice, Kontact, and Firefox.
