MepisLite 3.3.2test01 USB DVD writer

I just installed MepisLite on my desktop. Overall, I'm really impressed, but I can't get my system to use my writer. I checked that I had "none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devmode=0666 0 0" in my /etc/fstab (it is), and if I go into KDE Infocenter it sees my writer perfectly, manufacturer and all, but I cannot access it from any applications, and cannot get it to mount. Anyone have any tips?
