MepisLite 3.3.2-test01 hangs on module snd-nm256

Tried to install to an older laptop, but all the boot codes I tried did not work and the install routing always hangs on loading module snd-nm256.

This is a Dell PII 366 Latitude CpiA with the NeoMagic magic media graphics and sound chipset.

Anyway to get around this?

Thanks,
Robert

does it completely hang?

My first experience with this was the same, but on a new fast machine it cycled several times through the attempted loading of the sound module and finally gave up and loaded the remainder of the system.
I haven't got sound working yet - I think the wrong module has loaded but after playing with alsaconf it stopped complaining on bootup.

well, I let it go for some

well, I let it go for some time on the few attemts I tried to install, but I didnt wait hours....

try again

and when it is stuck, press Ctrl-C
hopefully that will pass the sticky point

I work around this on a Dell

I work around this on a Dell Latitude cpi a366xt laptop by using the OSS Neomagic module instead of the Alsa module, with 2.6.10 kernel. There are no doubt other fixes. I have a thread on the issue on Mepislovers:
