KDE panel question

While experimenting with Mepis one thing I noticed was that it comes with the
KDE panel set up with a group of small icons along with the regular icons.
What I mean should be more clear by looking at the left side of this screen

Evidently the panel lets you designate a section which can have tiny icons
while another section of the panel can have a different icon size. I have
been trying to discover where this is set. I've been through all the panel
menus several times, and I could not find a place to set up a section with
its own different size of icons. I could not find this discussed in the Panel
Handbook.
I can tell you right-clicking the tiny icons gives a context menu for "add
application" or "remove" and DOES NOT use the word "button." Right-clicking
the larger icons more to the right gives the menu I am used to that mentions
"buttons" (e.g. "Move Kedit button," "Remove Kedit button," etc.).
Does anyone know how to create this section of tiny icons?
Thank you.

Pod, Thank you for this information. I found that my icon size was set for "auto" and "conserve space" was checked. I guess when a high number of icons are added to the panel, it starts "doubling them up" so you can easily see them all. I would never have found this setting for the applet handles without your help. Thank you!

Hi, i think it'll become configurable if you do this...
control center -> desktop -> panels -> appearance -> advanced options
make applet handles visible and apply.
Then you should see little bars with tiny up pointing arrows on them beside each panel section.
right click on these lets you set icon size at panel level.
