SimplyMEPIS_3.4-1.rc1

I am writing this feedback from SimplyMEPIS_3.4-1.rc1 live CD demo. SM3.4 is very nice looking with the KDE 3.4.2 look and the Mozilla Firefox (Deer Park) 1.5 on board.

I installed SimplyMEPIS_3.4-1.rc1 onto my HD using the OS Center. That took only nine minutes. The only install problem was that I had little choice where to place the boot loader. Only hda or hdb, but not in any partition. So after all testing was concluded, I had to re-install Grub to run hda15 for my normal boot of SM 3.3.2.

The HD install of SimplyMEPIS_3.4-1.rc1 failed to start X. It stalled at a prompt for root login. I will include the syslog file below. My h/w has onboard nvidia so I had chosen the nvidia drivers.

There was one hitch in the ISO download. The md5sum did not agree, but I burned the CD anyway (with verify). That could cause problems. The downloaded ISO file checksum is : 6f69b9493a11227b8caac0c063189f0c SimplyMEPIS_3.4-1.rc1.iso
