Pity - SimplyMEPIS Drops Win4Lin 9x Support

I just read the announcement for Win4Lin 9x. It states that:

"Please note that MEPIS no longer supports Win4Lin 98 which required a patched kernel that was incompatible with Kernel Team guidelines. Win4lin users should consider upgrading to Win4lin Pro which does not not require a kernel patch"

Pity. IMHO, Win4Lin 98 is much better than Win4Lin Pro. Win4Lin is so much faster.

Since many folks never run a Windows emulator, I can understand why SimplyMEPIS no longer includes a pathched kernel for Win4Lin. But wouldn't it be better if SimplyMEPIS made a patched kernel available for download for those users who want to use the faster Win4Lin Program?

win4lin Pro

Win4Lin Pro runs like a dead dog and it isn't much better with kqemu installed. I have a fast processor and heaps of swap space as well as 1G of RAM but I'd rather use Win4Lin original if I need to use a windows program. I now have a copy of the Australian Tax software which runs under Linux so that leaves one program (Oziexplorer, a map reading program) to get going under wine this time.
I'll look on the win4lin site for a patched Debian kernel for the future use of Win4Lin.

Liz, Which version of

Liz,

Which version of E-Record are you currently running? I have tried a few and they all had glitches under Wine and Crossover..

pilot release

i got a pilot release by snail mail from someone on the gnucash list
but I have got it here.
http://www.billiau.net/coffee_break/files/incidentals/ECIClient-Linux-CD-20050426.zip
i have heard back from ATO that was this only intended as a pilot, and at the end they will decide whether to go ahead
"The Linux version of ECI was only made available as a pilot to a limited
number of users. That pilot has now finished and an evaluation will be
completed in due course. Once the evaluation is complete the ATO will
determine if or when a Linux version of ECI will be made available to
the general public."
that came from
"TRPESD"
and the more people email them the more likely we are to get the full release, and updates!
