Would anybody be able to direct me to information about updating my BIOS using Linux? I've searched around this site but have not been able to find this information yet.
Thank you, Fred
Computer and BIOS

I recently built my computer with an ECS motherboard 755-A2 (1.0) with an AMD Sempron 3000+. System has 512Mb of memory, a Seagate Barracuda 80Gb hard drive and a Lite-On Optical CD R-W drive but no floppy. I have installed only Linux and it seems to be working OK but it only boots after I use the reset switch after I initial use the power switch. I have been trying to figure out why this is happening but it is unresolved. There is an undated Phoenix Award BIOS for my motherboard so I thought that updating the BIOS may correct my booting problem. My BIOS is dated 3-02-05 and ECS has a download for an update dated 7-05.
Thanks for taking a look at my post.

Actually that is not true. Bios chip can be repaired by hot-flashing it.

OK, Pohjola, please explain to a newbie how to hot-flash a BIOS chip.
BTW, keep in mind that technical help sometimes (most of the times) costs more than a motherboard.

There are many web pages describing the whole procedure (some with pictures also) so why? I'm only saying it is not so hard to do and the myth of ruining the whole computer by updating bios is very old fashioned. And if someone is uncertain he can send the chip to be repaired, Finland is an expensive country and repairing bios costs here 7-15$.
I have updated many bioses and never failed.

You can flash bios also using CD-ROM. http://colt.projectgamma.com/bios/flashing.html
And use the latest bios: 2005/09/29
EDIT: You can use also K3b to create BIOS flash CD-ROM.

What computer? What kind of BIOS upgrade does your hardware vendor provide? You might be able to use a Free DOS floppy depending on the type of the BIOS upgrade your computer vendor provides.
And why? If you don't really need to upgrade in order to get a feature I'd advice against it, one failed BIOS upgrade and you might need to replace your motherboard.
