Printing

Some people have noted broken printing with this. My situation is unusual, with a network printer, whose ppd file I have to move to /etc/cups/ppd/ but it has worked perfectly.
Perhaps some of the printer drivers are faulty?

Cupsys not starting

After installing 3.4.1rc1 (looks great, by the way, and installed and found everything it should), I went to kcontrol, peripherals to install a printer and got the following error from clicking on the "add printer' button:

<br />
An error occurred while retrieving the list of available backends.<br />
Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running.<br />

I tried to start the cups server manually, and got the following:

<br />
root@1[bbb]# /etc/init.d/cupsys start<br />
Starting Common Unix Printing System: cupsd/usr/sbin/cupsd: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/i686/cmov/libcrypto.so.0.9.7: cannot read file data: Input/output error<br />
root@1[bbb]#<br />

Which gives a bit more explanation to the previous error - it appears that cupsys isn't starting because of some problem with libcrypto. I did a google search on the above, but can't figure it out.

Any ideas? Does this problem exist for others?

(by the way, I put BBCode 'code' tags above but they didn't seem to work... )

install printer

at the first opportunity, choose administrator mode, put in the root password and then install the printer.
certainly my cupsd is running without my intervention

Reinstalling packages fixes cupsys

There must have been a hiccough during the initial installation. I tried reinstalling cupsys, libssl0.9.7 & libssl0.9.8, and now cups starts without a problem. Strange.

3.4.1rc1 looks good!

Add Printer

I've just installed version 3.4 and am having a problem adding a printer. I'm trying to add a HP Deskjet 952C printer. I have logged in Administrator Mode, given my root password, selected the Add Printer icon, selected the printer, and when I select Test Page, it gives me an OKAY dialog box to press when the page completes printing, but nothing happens - no printed test page. I've tried installing the printer separately on parallel and in usb to no avail. I've given myself as an allowed user.

The printer is working in Windows 98.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

How did you reload cupsys?

I know it's been over a year, but can you please tell me how you reinstalled cupsys and the others? Jus pop in the cd?
I have same error "Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed.

Please Start A New Post

cavrito, this post is over a year old and has not been posted to in that time. If you are having a similar problem, please post to a new thread and provide information on the Mepis version you are using. Also provide information on the printer(s) that you are trying to get running. There have been a number of updates to Mepis since this post, so many of the issues may have been solved.
